Which are our best winter coats? Whether you’re after a warm, thick winter coat, a waterproof coat or a combination of the two, there’s a huge amount to choose from so it’s worth knowing exactly what you’re looking for.
Puffa Coats?
Thick puffa coats, like our Lauria Garrelli “Paris” coat don’t tend to be waterproof however, they do stand up to a lot of rain purely because they’re so thick. I wear mine a lot in heavy showers and as long as it’s just a 20 minute dog walk or getting the horse in, I’ll always stay warm and dry. Our puffas also wash really well so that’s a bonus. A tip is to dry them with a tennis ball if you have a tumble drier, it fluffs up the padding really well.
Waterproof Coats?
If you’re looking at waterproof coats, check the waterproof specification and also check whether it has taped seams. Seams that have been heat sealed in the manufacturing process help ensure that water doesn’t get in through the stitching. Also remember to take into consideration the length of the coat. Ideally, you want it to cover your lower back even if you raise your arms or lean forward. This will ensure that there’s no gap between your tops and bottom even if it rides up! Our most popular waterproof coat at the moment is the HKM hunter green “Eaton” coat. This has a waterproof rating of 3,000mm which means it is suitable for average-moderate rainfall.
A lot of people recently have been asking for highly technical, highly waterproof coats. I’d been searching for an additional supplier for a while and after lots of discussions and meetings, I’ve introduced Euro-Star into our collections. Euro-Star makes high quality, beautifully designed clothing with the rider in mind and I’ve loved their clothing for years. We’ve only just started working with them but the first piece I bought was their Lajana coat. This is highly waterproof, has an 8,000mm specification with taped seams. It has fleece lined pockets, and the faux fur lined hood is detachable.
Do have a look at our online shop and see what’s in stock. We’re coming to the end of the season now so stocks are low but there’ll be more jackets in soon and more winter coats arrive in September.
